"My heart leaps up when I behold a rainbow in the sky; so was it when my life began; so is it now I am a man; so be it when I shall grow old, or let me die!"
This poem speaks to me of an appreciation for life. I we admire the wonders around us, we will find there is little to complain about. The rainbow signifies God's promises. When we feel a little down and out, we can think of the rainbow. When we think of a rainbow, we also think of the rain that comes before it. The rain can be light, heavy, thunderous or scary. So is the course of life. So when things get rough, let's do like the author and allow our hearts to leap at the beauty that' around the corner.

Good blog. I think that many people complain about the little things in life and that they should really appreciate it because it is not as bad as it seems. If there was a better appreciation for life, then many of the problems that we have would not be an issue.
Very nice analysis of that particular quote. I like your interpretation of the symbolic nature of the rainbow. I would have liked a little more depth concerning the author. What did you think of Wordsworth as a whole, etc?
Sherri,
Congratulations on having completed your 20th post!
This post makes a good point, although it is not fully developed. Also, Wordsworth both is and isn't referring to Noah and God's promise with the rainbow. Although his readers would have that story in mine, he is more concerned with "natural piety" rather than Christian piety, and for him the rainbow is a test of his imagination and childish enthusiasm for nature: if he stops getting excited by rainbows, he says, he would just as soon die.
The line you quoted leaves a lingering feeling of hope with me. Seeing a rainbow form after a rain must surely univerally touch the viewer with something of a childlike sense of wonder. As adults those small moments when we can recapture the feeling or experiencing something for the first time or something that touches us greatly, I think it revives our soul and encourages us. Enjoyed your post!
I enjoyed you analysis of this poem. I had almost forgotten about reading it until I read your blog. The quotation you used was so powerful and yet so straightfoward. What was your feeling on the rest of Wordsworth?
This is a really good blog. I really like how you related back to God. I agree with you all the way.To me after the rain, or thunderstorm there is a rainbow ,which is a comforting site to see. It's like life you go through hell, but in the end God wants you to know that he is till there by rewarding you with a rainbow.
I like your enthusiasm about the passage you picked for your post. I agree that we do focus on the little things in life too much sometimes and if we just look to the (end) we will find happiness.

I like your quote, "My heart leaps up when I behold a rainbow in the sky; so was it when my life began; so is it now I am a man; so be it when I shall grow old, or let me die!" Your thoughts on the poem were also good. It is good to know when you are going through a storm, that on the other end of that storm you will see a rainbow. Rainbows are full of hope!
